IBPS goofs up, cancels CWE-PO/MT allotment for 21 PSU banks
Gujarat Global News Network, Mumbai
The Institute for Banking Person Selection (IBPS) has put in abeyance the provisional allotment of banks to candidates for recruitment of POs/MTs in 2013-2014 project.
On Tuesday, IBPS had declared the provisional allotment of banks to candidates who had cleared the PO/MT II exam and interview. But following complaints of mistakes in the allotment process to many candidates, the organization was forced to cancel the allocation.
“On receipt of feedback from the different levels, it has been decided to keep the provisional allotment made to banks for recruitment of Pos/MTs for filling up vacancies for 2013-2014 in abeyance. Revised provisional allotments will be made known shortly” reads the message on the website of IBPS.
Candidates have also been sent SMSs by IBPS to ignore the previous allotment which was communicated via email and SMS on Tuesday.
As per the process declared by IBPS earlier, allotment from among the 21 banks was to be made to candidates in order of merit cum preference, meaning that the candidate who has the highest marks will be allotted the bank of his highest preference first and so on. The candidates were asked to fill in their preferences for the 21 banks by 28th February.
But following the allotment done by IBPS on Tuesday, many candidates who had score high marks complained that they were given banks which were lower in their list of preference. Most of the candidates complained of not being allotted Bank of Baroda (BOB) and Punjab National Bank (PNB). Also it was reported that candidates in reserved category were made allocation in General category quote.
The confusion was amplified due to the lack of any transparency in the process of allotment by IBPS. Candidates have complained that IBPS should have come out with a merit list based on the final scores of the students, so that they could know their standing in the competition.
Following uproar from many quarters, IBPS decided to cancel the allocation made by it. No timeline has been provided by IBPS for the fresh allocations.
Since 2011, IBPS has been conducting a common written examination (CWE) for the selection Officers and Clerks in Indian banks. IBPS CWE is now mandatory for anyone who seeks an employment in public sector and Regional Rural banks. Since 2012, IBPS has also started conducting common interviews for the candidates passing the written exam, giving it total control over the selections process of the candidates.
In 2011, IBPS had to conduct a supplementary exam after the first CWE for PO/MT selection, as many candidates were disallowed to appear for the exam in the first attempt.
