Ties between the British Government and Narendra Modi government reached an all time high after  British minister of state at foreign and commonwealth office Hugo Swire meet the chief minister in Gandhinagar.

Swire avoided any comment on the speculation of Modi being given a Visa to the UK.  He dismissed it saying these things are decided on an individual basis. But he did say that “relations with Gujarat are speedily moving in the right direction”,

The British minister was in town to witness signing of the LNG supply deal at Mahatma Mandir between GSPC and UK-headquartered BG Group. He is the first minister from UK to meet Modi in the last 10 years after the 2002 riots.

“My visit today has been the logical next step since our decision to re-engage with the democratically-elected leadership of this important state,” Swire said after the 30-minute-long meeting with Modi.

Swire and the Gujarat Chief Minister had a 30 minute discussion about a variety of topuc including ways to increase trade, human rights and minority rights issues. "We also discussed the issues of justice for the two British nationals killed in the 2002 riots," Swire added. "He (Modi) said the court is about to deliver its judgment. I will be visiting their families in Britain in a week or two." The British nationals were killed in Sabarkantha during the violence.
