Cadila Pharma Chairman Indravadan Modi passes away

Indravadan A Modi, chairman of the Ahmedabad based Cadila pharmaceuticals passed away today. He was 87.
Modi was born in Hansot village of Bharuch district in South Gujarat on February 18, 1926. In 1951, he set up a small pharmaceutical unit, ‘Cadila Laboratories’. The company was later restructured as Cadila Pharmaceuticals in 1995.
Modi played a major role in giving shape to the 1986 Drug Policy of Government of India. He was also a member of the National Working Group on Patent Laws, India (NWGPL) and Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA) on the subject “Patent Regime” proposed in the Uruguay Round at Delhi 1993. He was also the key promoter of the B. V. Patel Pharmaceutical Education and Research Development Centre (PERD)
His company Cadial Pharmaceuticals is headquartered at Ahmedabad Gujarat. The company caters to over 45 therapeutic areas and has its presence in over 90 countries. The company has R&D and manufacturing facilities at Dholka, Ankleshwar, Kadi and Hirapur in Gujarat; Samba in Jammu & Kashmir; and Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.
Cadila has two joint ventures; Cadila Pharmaceutials (Ethiopia) Plc and CPLBiologicals Pvt Ltd, the later being with US-based Novavax Inc.
