Gujarat global News Network, Ahmedabad
Within an hour of his arrest, Gujarat University Vice Chancellor Parimal Trivedi was released on bail by the Metropolitan Magistrate. He was arrested in a case of atrocities.
Trivedi has to furnish a bond of Rs 25,000 and surrender his passport for the release. He has also assured full cooperation to the police in the investigation of a case which has been lingering since 2004.
Trivedi, who was missing with family since Saturday, ha claimed that he had not gone in any hiding. He claimed that he had been to Somnath temple for darshan on the occasion of Mahashivratri on Monday.
It is a strange coincidence that police which did not take any action against Trivedi on the day when it has to submit an action taken report in the High Court. The court had given a fortnight’s time to the police to act in response to a petition filed by Pankaj Shrimali, a professor of GLS Arts College.
Trivedi bought time by not being present at his official residence, which was visited by a team of policemen on Sunday and Monday to arrest him. This saved him for being in jail during these two holidays.
