Rare books at the click of mouse

If the digitization of the 75 year old historical Sheth M J Library goes through then one would be able to read rare books at the click of the mouse.
The library plans to digitize about 1500 rare manuscripts and put it on the web, Mayor and chairman of the library Asit Vora said.
70 percent of the work has been completed and once over the books would be uploaded on www.amcmjlibrary.com he said. The reference section of the library would also be upgraded with new books and material.
The annual budget of the library for the year 2013-14 was passed in the meeting today. The Rs.8.88 crore budget has some new schemes which include smart card for the members. A member having smart card can get any book from any of the zonal library.
The membership fees have been increased and accordingly the fess would be Rs.200 with Rs.300 as deposit for a year and Rs.1500 for lifetime membership. For digital library the fees would be Rs.150 with Rs.150 deposit and Rs.500 for lifetime. For visually challenged persons the yearly fees would be Rs.100 with a deposit of Rs.100 and lifetime fees would be Rs.500.
Bogus readers are a big challenge for the library with many of them get books issued and then not returning it. About 4 percent books in the library are missing which include some old and rare books also, Vora said. To check this it has been planned to thoroughly scan credentials of new members. In addition the penalty for overdue has been increased from Rs. 1 to Rs.3 per day. Â Â Â
