Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad
Students of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University have ultimately got relief from the Fee Regulatory Committee of Gujarat Technological University. The Committee has asked the PDPU to charge the fee fixed by the GTU. It has asked the PDPU to refund the extra fee.
PDPU had asked students to pay Rs 1.5 lakh as fee while the fee fixed by the FRC is Rs 75,000. Students have to pay fee by January 9. Fearing action by the PDPU some students had paid the fat fee while other mobilized support to protest against the University.
Earlier this week a group of students even barged into the office of the GTU to press for their demand. They were told that FRC would look into the matter. Accordingly, FRC met on Thursday and decided that PDPU was overcharging the fee.
The FRC has asked the PDPU to either refund the fee or to adjust the extra amount against other fees and charges students have to pay.
Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University has been promoted by Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) to create a world class University in energy education and research with special focus on the oil and gas sector. It is as a Private University through the State Act enacted on 4th April, 2007.
