Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation school board plans to set up a “child museum” and “education museum-resource centre” for activity based learning among civic school students.
The museums to be set up at the cost of Rs.one crore each will help bring out hidden talent amongst the children of municipal schools.
The proposal has been put up in the Rs. 472.83 crore budget of the school board for the financial year 2012-13. School board chairman Jagdish Bhavsar said that focus would be on improving the education standard in the civic schools and ensuring more admissions. He claimed that drop out ration had decreased considerably during the past 4 years and it had reduced from 11 percent to 2.32 percent this year.
He said that level of civic schools was improving and during the last three years about 16,000 students from the private primary schools migrated to civic schools. To a question about English medium civic schools, Bhavsar said that last year it did not receive much response. For next academic year the board would make more efforts to ensure that more and more children take advantage of the schools.
All the civic schools will have internet connectivity soon. This would help in better administration. He said that strict monitoring would be done in schools so that teachers and students perform to their level best. The purpose of this monitoring is to achieve results.
Congress member of the school board Ramesh Chaudhary opposed the budget proposals and said that teachers should not be given any other duties like census or election. This adversely affects the teaching as teachers are out for days together.
Basic facilities like clean drinking water, toilets etc should be provided in schools, he added.
