Gujaratglobal News Network, New Delhi
After successfully implementing it in 29 schools in Middle East and South-Asia the Central Board for Secondary Education has now launched its international curriculum, called CBSE-i, in India.
The international curriculum called CBSE-i aims to carry forward the basic strength of the Indian educational system while promoting Creative and Critical Thinking Skills, Effective Communication Skills, Interpersonal Skills, Collaborative Skills along with Information and Media Skills.
CBSE-i focuses on five core areas of Mathematics, Sciences, Social Studies, Languages and Performing Arts while providing different levels of learning to cater to the different pace of learners.
In the international curriculum foundation of core skills in Mathematics and Science education will continue with a difference. Mathematics will be provided at two levels –‘Core and Elective’ to cater to the different kinds of learners. Science education, in addition to the foundation, will also have an extension, or ‘Breakthroughs’’ which will primarily take into account the latest advances in Science and Technology and current trends of scientific thinking and developmental processes.
At the heart of the Curriculum or the core are innovative programmes called Perspectives, Life Skills, SEWA (Social Empowerment through Work and Action), and Research.
The Life skills Programme will help students lead balanced, happy and successful lives. The program covers Creative and Critical Thinking Skills, Interpersonal Skills, Effective Communication Skills, Problem-Solving and Decision Making Skills, Conflict Resolution skills, Cooperation, Leadership Skills and Adolescence Education.
As part of the SEWA program all students from class I to class X will be part of a program of community service every year with an NGO/development organization of their choice. Students will keep a journal of their association and a log of their hours spent meaningfully in Social Empowerment through Work and Action (SEWA).
CBSE-i also provides flexibility in learning of languages by giving students the opportunity to study English, Hindi, mother tongue, local language or any of the foreign languages being offered by the Board.
The Board has decided to offer CBSE-i Curriculum on pilot basis to 50 schools representing all regions of CBSE.
The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has accorded equivalence to the CBSE-international (CBSE-i) Programme with minimum 5 (Five) subjects with +2 stage qualification of an Indian Board.
