AFMC to give admissions on basis of NEET
Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad
There will be no separate entrance test for admission to the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune from 2013.
The admission will be given on the basis of National Eligibility-cum Entrance Test being conducted for undergraduate courses of the Medical Council of India.
The NEET-UG tests will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education from 2013 and the candidates applying for this test will have to mention their choice for AFMC in their application forms, Lt. Gen. H L Kakria, Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services said.
Only those candidates who mention ‘for AFMC’ will be interviewed by the AFMC selection panel, he said. The college provides training to under graduate and post graduate medical and nursing students with an assured career in defence service. The MCI has proposed NEET-UG from 2012-13 onwards with a view to end multiple entrance tests being held across the country for admission to medical colleges.
Initially there was resistance to this from many states who wanted more time to adjust to the course. Besides there was a question whether premier institutions like the AIIMs and AFMC would join or not. Kakria said that all issues relating to NEET have been solved.
