NSUI’s Dubious Silence over Parimal Trivedi

Gujarat University Vice Chancellor Parimal Trivedi has kept up his reputation of making headlines for all the wrong reasons. He recently got the distinction of being the first Vice Chancellor of Gujarat’s biggest University, The Gujarat University, to be arrested.

While his arrest and the ‘quick gun’ bail did raise some noise about the police going soft on Trivedi, the silence of NSUI, the student wing of the Congress has been the talk of the town. It is very ironic that while ABVP, the students’ wing of the BJP, was quick to demand the resignation of Trivedi while the NSUI has kept a dubious silence over the complete incident. Trivedi is known to be in the good books of ‘the powers that be’ in the BJP, but such muteness from the NSUI has raised many questions.

Manish DoshiManish Doshi, spokesperson for Congress and senate member, has been completely missing form action. Doshi, who almost never misses a chance to offer sound bites to the media, is nowhere to be found. No reaction has come from his side about the arrest of the Vice Chancellor in the case filed by Lecturer Pankaj Shrimali. His no show has given fuel to the grapevine about him going soft on Trivedi for reasons best known to them.

Similarly, the tight lipped behavior of Narhari Amin, a Congress old hand in student politics, has given credence to the reports of Trivedi being close to Amin. In the past too, Amin’s support for Trivedi and his controversial decisions in the University has raised eyebrows.

While Doshi and Amin seem to be taking a break from the activities of Gujarat University, their job is being done by the ABVP which has been prompt and asked for Trivedi to resign immediately from the post of the Vice Chancellor.
