Union Budget is Development Oriented: Shaktisinh Gohil

Leader of Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil has said that the Union budget is worth appreciating as it is helpful to an average Indian and has provisions that will help India move ahead despite global recession and challenges. Gohil said that the Finance Minister has tried to give priority to maximum relief to common man and the security of the country.

Gohil added that “Finance Minister has exempted income up to Rs two lakh from IT. Similarly, people having earnings between Rs eight and ten lakh have been given relief of ten percent in IT. Earlier they had to pay 30 percent tax, now it will be 20 per cent.” He added that huge allocation of funds has been made for defence, Agriculture, poor and middle class, infrastructure, health and education.

Rs 1,93,407 crore have been allocated for defence while Rs 3915 crore have been provided for national rural livelihood mission, he pointed out. There is a provision for construction of 8800 kms of highway. Announcement of Rs 50 lakh crore has been made for infrastructure sector. For the health of people Rs 20,822 crore have been provided in National Rural Health Mission.

Gohil said that special provision has been made in the self help group for women. Rs 14,000 crore have been allocated for potable water and sanitation in rural areas. NABARD has got Rs 15,888 crore to help people in public sector and rural areas. There is exemption in tax in savings in different schemes.

Substantial amount of Rs. 25,555 crore has been granted under the Right to Education which would help the youth of the country to get better education facilities. The rural development fund has been pegged at Rs. 20,000 crore. Rs.15,850 crore has been allocated under the integrated child development scheme. Announcement has been made in the budget to set up 6000 new schools.

Adequate steps have been taken to ensure that the GDP growth is maintained in future also. Under the ICDS a scheme for nutrition of children has been launched which would ensure proper care of child and mother. Large amount of funds Rs. 5,75,000 crore have been allocated for agriculture sector.

The government has announced concrete steps to bring black money stashed abroad. Agreements have been made with 82 countries to recover the black money and take action against the hoarders.  The government has given assurance to release a white paper on black money in the Parliament.  For the first time a provision has been made that the assessing officer can check and assess property and funds in foreign countries of 16 years.  Adequate provision has been made to bring the black money back into the country and punish the guilty. The BJP which is crying hoarse about black money never made any efforts during its tenure to bring back the black money.

Market index and Nifty have risen due to development oriented budget, Gohil said.
