The drama over former CM Keshubhai Patel’s renewal of BJP membership came to an end today with the veteran leader giving clear signals of quitting BJP .  He, along with other anti Modi leaders, will launch a new party soon.

The former chief minister Keshubhai Patel said that he has decided against renewing the primary membership of the party, and will also lead the third front during the upcoming assembly elections.

A host of anti-Modi leaders, including six-time Surat MP Kashiram Rana, former chief minister Suresh Patel, MJP president Gordhan Zadafia, former minister Nalin Bhatt, and others met at Keshubhai Patel’s residence in Gandhinagar on Friday, to chalk out their future strategy to take on chief minister Narendra Modi.

Coming out of the meeting, which lasted for well over two hours, Suresh Mehta and Gordhan Zadafia told waiting media-persons that Keshubhai Patel and Kashiram Rana would not renew their primary membership of the BJP.

“Keshubhai Patel is our leader. He and Kashiram Rana will quit BJP soon. A third front will be formed under his (Keshubhai’s) leadership in the last week of July or first week of August,” Suresh Mehta said.

This is the strongest signal from the dissidents’ camp yet that the Patel strongman has decided to quit the BJP and take the fight against Modi to the finish. It is, however, not still clear whether Patel would join the MJP or float a new party. Sources indicate that a formal announcement about his future plans could be made on July 24, which is the Patel strongman’s birthday.
