Keshubhai Patel to fight assembly election
Gujarat Global News Network, Junagadh
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel has said that he will contest the assembly elections to be held later this year. The 83 year old leader has been severely critical of Modi and the BJP government in the last few months.
Talking to media men at Junagadh he said he would contest after creating his own political outfit in August. He will consider fighting the elections from either Visavadar in Junagadh or from the Rajkot (west) seat. Patel had become CM after winning the Visavadar seat. He will be contesting an election after 14 years as the last time when he stood in an election was in 1998.
The 83-year-old leader has an excellent record in electoral politics. He has been elected to the state assembly six times and even won a Lok Sabha election. He has never lost an election since 1970.
During his speech to the public, he equated Modi with Adolf Hitler for his “use of state machinery for his propaganda”, and called for a change in governance. Without naming Modi, Patel said, “His style of functioning matches that of Hitler’s. He is snatching away people’s rights.”
This will be the first time the Patel leader will be contesting an election after he was ousted as the Chief Minister by Narendra Modi in 2001.
