Keshubhai Patel quits BJP

BJP veteran and former Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel has finally quit the BJP. The former CM sent his resignation letter to BJP president Nitin Gadkari today.
Patel has said that he will float a new party before the elections scheduled this year. Announcing his decision in a press conference today in Gandhinagar, Patel said he was unhappy with the way the party functions now. He said, "I am leaving with a lot of pain."Â
He had decided against renewing his membership of the BJP last month. Over the past few months, he has been criticizing Narendra Modi and his working style. He has publicly criticized Modi for being autocratic and intolerant of dissent. In a blog Patel wrote that Gujarat today is worse off than India during the days of the Emergency.
