Gujarat Elections 2012: Cong Promises 16 hours daily power supply to farmers

The Congress today announced the eight point of its Gujarat Praja Vikas Darshan-2012. It has made various promises relating to farmers of the state under the eighth point.
If voted to power in the forth coming elections, the congress party has promised to provide power supply to farmers of Gujarat for 16 hours daily and priority in power supply during daytime. It has also promised to give 90% subsidy in water pumps of 5 HP to 100 HP working on solar power and wind power.
Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee President Arjun Modhwadiya, Leader of Opposition of Gujarat Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil and Election Campaign Committee Chairman Mr. Shankersinh Vaghela addressed a joint press conference today. Modhwadia said that misleading statements are being made to mislead people outside Gujarat that, “24 hours power supply is available to farmers of Gujarat and farmer of Gujarat purchase new Maruti car every year”, while in reality the farmer is having only 8 hours power supply which includes 4 hours power supply during night time.
The Congress announced that If Government of Congress party comes to power in the State, first 50 units of electricity will be free of charge for domestic use. Further, there will be reduction by 10% in energy tax. Thus, middle class consumers paying for heavy electricity supply rates will get relief.
All the police cases lodged against the farmers alleging power theft and water thefts will be withdrawn by the Congress government and will have humanitarian and sympathetic approach with the farmers.
Also a project of making “Energy self-reliant villages” by satisfying their entire need of electricity through using non-conventional energy sources including solar Power will be implemented with financial assistance in large scale.
Other announcements include new electric connections to 10 lakh farmers waiting for power connections, Extracts of village form no.7/12 and 8-A to be provided free of charge from every village, Corpus fund of Rs.1000 crores for market intervention so as to ensure remunerative prices to the farmers growing cotton, potato and onion etc, 4,600 KM long canal network to be completed within3 years for irrigation water to 18 lakh hector agricultural land in Narmada command areas.
