846 candidates in fray for the 1st phase of Gujarat elections

As many as 846 candidates are in fray for the first phase of Assembly elections polling for which will be held on December 13.
On the last day of withdrawal of nomination on Thursday the Election Commission declared a list of total 846 candidates for 87 seats.
Maximum numbers of candidates 20 are from Limabayat constituency in Surat district in South Gujarat. 378 candidates have filed nominations as independents. Maximum number of independents are from Jetpur seat where 10 people have filed their nominations. On this seat Congress has nominated MP Vitthal Radadiya while BJP has fielded Jasuben Korat.
Besides Congress and BJP many regional parties have put up their candidates. These include Janta Dal (U), Bahujan Samaj Party, Samajwadi Party, Nationalist Congress Party, CPI(M), Lok Janshakti Party and others.
