Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said paid news, sensationalism and prejudiced stories are major problems of media today. But censorship is no solution. He was speaking at a function to release the book titled “The Tribune 130 years: a witness to history” in New Delhi.

Wikipedia, the popular information sharing website, has announced that it will voluntarily blackout the English version of the website for a day on Wednesday to protest proposed U.S. anti-piracy legislations. The announcement was made by the Wikimedia foundation on its website.

Experience shows that the best guarantee for safeguarding the public interest is to have strong and independent-minded editors. Today, they are an endangered species. Addressing after presenting “Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards 2010-11” at a function here today, Vice President of India M. Hamid Ansari said that slow erosion of the institution of the editor in Indian media organisations is a reality.
