Chevening scholarship programme for Journalists of India and Pakistan

Foreign and Commonwealth Office has launched an exclusive new Scholarship Programme for high flying, mid career journalists of South Asia. In the first year journalists of India and Pakistan are invited to the programme. This is named Chevening South Asia Journalism Programme.

A release issued by the British Council says the Foreign and Commonwealth Office presents this remarkable leadership course for future media leaders and opinion formers from South Asia  Entitled 'Good Governance in a Changing World: the Media, Politics and Accountability'.

The course is organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Westminster and will take place in London over eight weeks in April and May 2012. The Programme will enable fourteen candidates - seven each from India and Pakistan to be a part of an intensive learning experience that will sharpen thinking and leadership skills.

Journalists should have at least seven year experience. They should have good academic record and they should be conversant with written and spoken English. However, those who have already participated in UK government funded programme are not eligible.

Each scholarship covers, full programme fees, living expenses for the duration of the scholarship return airfare andUK visa.

The University of Westminister is one of the largest, most international and highly rated 'post 1992' universities in the UK. Within the School, the Chevening South Asia Journalism Programme will be based in the prestigious Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. The department is well known for the courses it offfers in Journalism, Media Management, Public Relations, Communication, Communication Policy and Global Media.
