Udasi’s film selected for Script film festival

The other side of the wall, a documentary film directed by Kamlesh Udasi, senior producer with ISRO here will be screened in the two day International film festival, Script. The festival is a two day event starting on January 20.
Talking about the film Udasi says, the word “jail” conjures up images of dark, dank dungeons, with manacled figures and chain gangs under the watchful eyes of armed guards. One invariably associates jail with violence and retribution rather than reformation. This kind of impression of jail is so strong in our mind due to the depiction of the life in jail in our films. What is the reality behind this dreaded four-letter word?
This documentary endeavors to traverse the wall and see what happens on the other side – get a glimpse of a normal day behind bars. A world in itself - a world made up of array of stories, yet living itself out in the harsh reality that is existed in imprisonment. The clear helplessness that is experiencing the sense of depression that lies behind these walls.
While trying to get a feel of the daily routine of the inmates, it strives to penetrate the wall and look into the hearts of the prisoners. Unable to change the present, they live dreaming of the future they hope to have. Can something – is something – being done to rehabilitate such a one? Discover the new world: The Other Side of the Wall.
SCRIPT, is organized by the Rotary Club of Cochin Metropolis. It seeks to recognize outstanding short films that deal with globally relevant social issues, thereby drawing world attention to these issues.
The Inaugural festival was held in Jan 2011. Inspired by this success and encouraging participation from Film Makers, enthusiasts, sponsors and well wishers second edition has been brought out this year.
Such a film festival is unique in India. It will create awareness among the general public about social issues and persuade them to join the cause in combating them say organizers of the SCRIPT.
The festival has six categories. It has showcase category for award winning level films, international category, student category, documentary category, film makers category and two minute film category.
