Asiatic lion sanctuary Gir has Taj group hotel

Tourists going to famous Gir forest, abode of Asiatic lions, can now have star hotel facility. 28 room Gateway Hotel Gir Forest is part of the Taj Group of Hotel and focuses on upscale segment. The group has revived its existing property at Gir forest.The group plans t
o develop the hotel as a feasible venture and for this it has on its agenda nature excursions and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibition (MICE) tourism. This will maintain flow of tourists even in off season, says P K Mohankumar COO, The Gateway Hotel.
Apart from Asiatice lions, Gir is also home to leopard, jungle cat, rusty spotted cat, cheetal, Sambhar, four horned antelope and the wild boar. Besides these ecotourism attractions, Gir is also surrounded by tourist detinations like Somnath, Banej and Kankai temples.
Continuing its efforts to explore new areas, the company is in the process of developing 20 new hotels in India at locations such as Pune, Raipur, Delhi, Shirdi, Kolhapur, Punjab, Chandigarh and Ludhiana to name a few.
The Gateway Hotel is also in the process of procuring and developing historic, endangered and rare plants which are in danger of becoming extinct. Ranging from Luffa Ecninata (Kukadvel) useful in treatment of jaundice to Premua Obtusifolia (Gheeteli) - an ancestral holy plant used for lighting 'Yagna' to Convolvulus microphyllus (Shankh Pushpi) used as brain tonic and immunity-builder for infants. More than 12 -15 such species have been identified in partnership with Dr. Rasik Bhatt, Junagadh based nature enthusiast and will soon be planted in the hotel.
