How to use the Facebook timeline

Facebook has been known to keep on updating the look of profile pages with new features and integrations. The latest in this list is the ‘Timeline’ feature which replaces your old profile page, the one with your headshot at the left and your wall in the middle, with a timeline about you and your life as seen on Facebook.
The concept looks refreshing at the fist look but can be confusing for first time users. Facebook describes Timeline ‘Tell your life story with a new kind of profile‘. The new kind of profile has at the top a cover photo, which visitors to your profile will first see. Below it to the right will be your original profile picture.
The timeline is like a picture presentation of your life on Facebook in a reverse chronological order. Your most recent photographs, scraps and activities are shown at the top and as you move towards the bottom, older highlights from your profile are shown.
As you scroll down you can go back to your first post on Facebook. What the Timeline feature does is that it gives the viewers to have a peek into the complete life of the user through small snippets of information from different periods of time. This in contrast to the older version of the profile page, which focused more on the recent activities and less on the past.
You can jump to the years with the help of the time scale at the left which shows birth as the bottom mark of the scale. It is also an opportunity to see how their habits and activities on Facebook have changed over the period of time.
The users have the option to select which information will be shown on the Timeline. Users also have the option to highlight certain events of life more prominently. Users can also change who has access to which posts
