Aakash, the world’s cheapest tablet is available for sale from Friday. Aakash can be purchased online only, through its web site. The tablet is priced at Rs 2,500. Aakash is a made-in-India product from the company Data Wind.

Aakash comes with a 366 Mhz Arm 11 Processor, a 2100 mAh battery and runs on Android 2.2. It has 256MB RAM and Storage (External) is supported upt o 32GB.  It has 2 USB ports and a 3.5 mm audio jack.  Aakash also has WiFi. It runs on Android 2.2. The company has stated to deliver the product in 7 days after booking.

Also launched is the upgraded version of Aakash called the Ubi Slate 7. The Ubi Slate has a Cortex A8 – 700 Mhz processor, a graphics accelerator HD video processor, a 3200 mAh battery and runs on Android 2.3. It is available for pre order at the price of Rs 2999 only. People interested in the product can pre-book it on the website.

The best part is that it has WiFi & GPRS (SIM & Phone functionality). The resistive touch screen is a bit of a letdown, but understandable at the price tag of Rs 3000. The device has a 7 inch display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution, 256 MB RAM, 2 GB internal memory and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Deliveries of the Ubislate 7 will start from Januray end.

Since the concept of a ultra low cost tablet was announced by Kapil Sibal ,there has been a lot of buzz around Aakash. It has been tagged as the world’s cheapest tablet from India. The launch was supposed to take place in November but was delayed due to some reasons.

At the price tag of Rs 2500, Aakash, which runs on Android 2.2, has the potential to give tough completion to all other tablets in the market. At present other tablets are available in the market from the starting price of Rs 8000-9000. This huge difference may very well start a price war between other tablets.
