IAF chief in Singapore to boost defence ties

Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne, Chief of the Air Staff is on a four day Defence Cooperation visit to Singapore from today. He is leading a Composite Defence Delegation to Singapore, which includes Vice Admiral Shekhar Sinha, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC), and other senior officials of MoD and the Armed Forces.
The Chief of the Air Staff is likely to discuss a wide range of bilateral issues on the ongoing defence cooperation between the two countries towards expanding the already robust bilateral military to military ties. He will also visit the Singapore Air Show.
During his visit to the island country, the Air Chief would call on Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister of State for Defence. He would visit Air Combat Command of RSAF(Republic of Singapore Air Force) and also meet Lieutenant General Neo Kian Hong, Chief of Defence Force and Major General Ng Chee Meng, Chief of Singapore Air Force.
Ever since Singapore's independence in 1965, both nations have shared good relations including visits from the State Heads. The Singaporean Navy and the Indian Navy have conducted joint naval exercises and training since 1993 such as SIMBEX and MILAN near India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In 2003, India and Singapore signed a bilateral agreement on expanding military cooperation, conducting joint military training, developing military technology and achieving maritime security. India and Singapore have also expanded their cooperation in fighting terrorism. Both the countries also conduct exchange programmes in staff courses and training activities.
