First ever National Book Fair in Ahmedabad inaugurated

The first ever National Book Fair in Ahmedabad was inaugurated at Sabarmati riverfront on Tuesday. The The National Book Fair organized by the National Book Trust was inaugurated by chief minister Narendra Modi . Books in many languages like English, Gujarati, Hindi, Urdu etc are on display and available for sale.

The book fair will be open in the city from May 1 to May 7, 2012. A total of 122 publishers from various parts of the country have participated in the fair. Varieties of books covering diverse subjects are available at the book fair for sale. There is a large collection of books on children's literature to scientific discoveries, motivational to religious and spiritual subjects, folklore and mythology to modern literary creations. 

National Book Trust (NBT) has also expressed interest in setting up first-of-its-kind book promotion centre in the city for promoting literary activities. The book trust has sought the help of Ahmedabd Municipal Corporation for land to set up promotion centre.

AM Sikandar, director of NBT, said that "If the corporation provides land by June, Ahmedabad will be the first city to have a book promotion centre as we are also in talks with Goa for the same project.”

At the inauguration ceremony, CM Modi said that "The book fair will be organised every year as continuous efforts are needed for bringing about change in the society.
