The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is starting a month-long drive for collection of e-waste through private agencies from today. AMC will purchase the e-waste and then recycle it.

‘Green citizens’ certificates will be given to people who bring their electronic items for disposal at e-waste collection centres by the corporation.

The collection drive is supported by Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB). The e-waste would be evaluated by ECS Group, a city-based e-waste management agency, which will then dismantle and recycle the waste to make environment-friendly products.

The Union Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) recently enacted rules, with effect from May 1, 2012, concerning e-waste management and handling that require pollution control boards, municipal authorities, industries, recyclers and citizens to come together for its effective implementation.
