BJP parliamentary board has declared Narendra Modi as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2104 Lok Sabha elections.
Party patriarch L K Advani abstained himself from the meeting making it very clear that he was against the decision. In a letter to party president Rajnath Singh Advani said that he was against former’s style of functioning.
Modi who flew late afternoon from Gandhinagar to attend the board meeting said that he was a small party worker from a small town and the party had given me a huge responsibility. “I will work hard to achieve victory for BJP in 2014 elections”, he said.
Modi’s anointment came just four days before his 63rd birthday. A crowd of jubilant Modi supporters gathered outside the BJP headquarters here indulging in celebrations, bursting crackers and distributing sweets. At Ahmedabad party office in Khanpur celebrations kicked off as soon as Rajnath Singh announced his name.
There was a festive mood at the residence of Modi’s brother and in Vadnagar, his hometown. Modi is expected to arrive here soon and will attend a felicitation programme at party’
