Gujarati film The Good Road has not only invited severe criticism from Bollywood, it has also provoked Gujarati film producers. They are more annoyed about the depiction of Gujarat, particularly the border district of Kutch, than the technical aspects of the film.
About 100 film producers and intellectuals from different parts of the state will stage a demonstration in front of Gandhi Ashram on Tuesday to press their demand that the film must not be sent to Oscar. They are very much annoyed at the depiction of child prostitution in Kutch and the sexual abuses by child characters.
They say that nothing such exists in Kutch and it was figment of wild imagination of the film maker. The film has beaten Lucnhbox in its race for nomination for the Oscar award in the best foreign film category.
Incidentally, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi tweeted compliments for the unanimous selection of the film.
Among those who are going to join the dharna at Gandhi Ashram are Abhilash Ghoda, Chika Kharsani, Vishnu Pandya and Kajal Ojha Vaidya.
