BJP MP from Junagadh, Dinesh Solanki alias Dinu Bogha involved in the murder of an RTI activist has been remanded in CBI custody till November 11. CBI had arrested him from Delhi.
Seeking Solanki's custody for 14 days, CBI counsel Kumar Rajat argued that the accused was allegedly involved in hatching a conspiracy to eliminate RTI activist Amit Jethava. During the investigation it had been revealed that Solanki was in constant touch with Bahadursinh Wader, a police constable over phone. He is one of the six accused chargesheeted by the Ahmedabad City Detection of Crime Branch,.
"Our investigating officer has found that Solanki used several phones and SIM cards which reveal that he was in constant touch with Bahadursinh, who is the main accused chargesheeted by the local police. We need to recover those cellphones and SIM cards, therefore Solanki's custodial interrogation is required," CBI counsel told the court.
The CBI counsel claimed that Solanki masterminded the murder, while adding that apart from call records, the agency also had several statements of witnesses pointing at the role of Solanki in the murder.
"There is a strong motive behind eliminating Jethava. He was continuously filing RTI applications against illegal mining in Junagadh, the constituency of Solanki. These applications threatened to expose the accused. Besides, Jethava also filed petition in the Gujarat High Court against Solanki for illegal mining the in the land owned by the accused," Rajat told the court.
