Finally the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has announced construction of 10,000 houses for poor section of the society under the Chief Minister Housing Project.
Under this project CM Narendra Modi had announced construction of more than 5 lakh houses for poor in the state.
In the initial phase the AMC plans to construct 10,000 houses which include 5082 for economically weaker section (EWS) and 4877 for Low Income Group (LIG). Looking to the demand the AMC will construct more houses in future, Municipal Commissioner G Mohapatra said.
The EWS houses will be of 28 sq.m. and will cost around Rs.6 lakh. Though the beneficiary will have to shell out only Rs. 3 lakh and rest will be subsidy. The LIG houses will be 45 sq.m and will cost around Rs.12 lakh. In this case the government will give Rs. 0ne lakh subsidy.
One will have to pay Rs.7,500 along with application forms for EWS and Rs.20,000 for LIG. Families which have annual income of less than Rs.0ne lakh annually will be eligible to apply for EWS and for LIG the limit is Rs.2.5 lakh.
29 sites in the AMC limits have been identified for the project. The EWS complex will have ground + 5 floors while LIG will have parking +7 and parking +10. To a question about the misuse of such type of houses Mohapatra said that the houses cannot be sold or leased for 7 years.
The AMC will provide all the basic facilities like water, drainage, electricity and roads. The allotment will be on the basis of computer draw.
