The state government has recommended the name of retired Justice D P Buch as the new Lokayukta.
His name was finalized in the state cabinet meeting today and was sent to the Governor for approval.
Buch’s name was suggested by the Chief Justice of High Court. Chief Minister Narendra Modi chaired the cabinet meeting today in which the proposal was cleared. It may be noted that the state does not have a lokayukta for last 10 years. The Modi government and Governor Kamla Beniwal are at loggerheads on the issue.
The Governor had returned the Lokayukta bill passed by the state Assembly recommending major changes. But the government passed the bill again without any major changes.
Earlier R A Mehta was appointed as Lokayukta but differences cropped up with his name and ultimately he refused to take charge. Modi who is BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate has come up with Lokayukta’s appointment to silence his critics who claim that he has double standards.
