Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) chairman Vipul Chaudhary has once again got a breather as the Gujarat High Court extended stay on no confidence motion against him till December 23.
As many as 14 of the 17 board members have moved a no confidence motion against him. The meeting was scheduled on October 26 but Chaudhary moved HC and got stay. He is facing heat over mismanagement in Mehsana District Copoerative Milk Producers Union.
Chaudhary is also facing storm as he met Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi during the latter’s visit to Ahmedabad recently. Chaudhary is eyeing the top post of chairman of National Dairy Development Board(NDDB) and in that reference he is said to have met Gandhi.
Justice A D Desai said that final hearing on Chaudhary’s petition would begin from December 23. The court directed both the parties to submit documents regarding activities of the federation.
During the arguments in the case Chaudhary's lawyers had argued that no confidence motion was politically motivated and argued that there was no such provision (moving no-confidence motion) in the Gujarat Cooperative Societies Act or in the bye-laws of GCMMF. The federation and its members who had opposed Chaudhary's petition had claimed that it was an internal dispute between members of the body and the chairman had acted in a haste by filing the petition. They argued that GCMMF chairman had acted on mere apprehension that he would be removed from the post by the members.
