P C Thakur today took charge of the office of Director General of Police, Gujarat. He has been appointed in place of Amitabh Pathak who died in August this year. Pramod Kumar was officiating as in-charge DGP.
Thakur, who is the only IPS officer of his batch in Gujarat cadre, has served 34 years of his service in various posts of Gujarat police at the top ranks. Thakur, a native of Himachal Pradesh, is regarded as a soft-spoken, but a strict officer.
The 1979 batch IPS officer, Thakur was the additional DGP prisons from last three years. He had recently written to the state government asking it to appoint a regular DGP in the state.
The Gujarat government had appointed P C Thakur as the Director General of Police (DGP) of the state late on Monday. The government also promoted Rajkot Police Commissioner H P Singh to the rank of the DGP, filling two vacant posts of the DGP ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
