The fourth edition of Sabarmati Marathon will be flagged off by Chief Minister NArendra Modi on Sunday here.
More than 17,500 participants are expected to take part in the marathon.
Giving details about the marathon Municipal Commissioner Guruprasad Mohapatra said that in all Rs.78.06 lakh will be given as prize money. There will be four categories- full marathon, half marathon, dream run and run for blind and physically challenged persons.
To attract more people the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has this year announced a special award category for Gujaratis. Besides cash prize the winners will also win trips to Malaysia, Dubai and Thailand. This time the route has also been revised and the run will culminate at Vallabh sadan only.
More than 100 national and international athletes are expected to participate. The winners in male and female international category in full marathon will get Rs. 6 lakh, in national category will get Rs. 2 lakh and in half marathon will get Rs. One lakh. While in Gujarat category the winner in male and female category in full marathon will get Rs.one lakh and in half marathon will get Rs. 50,000.
He said that full marathon will be of 42 km, half for 21 kms, and dream run will be for 27 kms. Registration for dream run will be done on the spot also.
