Former Chief Minister and ex BJP leader Keshubhai Patel on Wednesday announced his retirement from politics.
Patel, one time opponent of Chief Minister Narendra Modi said that he would resign as MLA from Visavadar.
86 year old Patel cited old age and ill health as the reason but sources say that he has vacated his seat for his son Bharat who recently joined BJP. Patel had floated Gujarat Parivartan Party before Assembly elections and he contested elections from GPP.
He asked GPP workers to join any national party except Congress. Last month the veteran leader stepped down from the post of president of GPP paving way for its merger with BJP.
Keshubhai’s homecoming will prove a shot in arm for Modi in the coming Lok Sabha elections as the former has good hold over Leuva Patel community in Saurasthra.
