The North West Indian Coastguard will have its headquarters in capital city of Gandhinagar.
The state government has given 65 acre to the coastguard in Lekavada at market rates.
An ultra modern building with all modern facilities will be constructed, IG Kuldeepsingh Sharon said. He said that this would take about four years. After South West Air Command Coastguard will also have its headquarters in Gandhinagar.
He parried a question about the rate at which land was allotted but clarified that it was as per revenue rates. Gujarat has 1600 km of coastline and is very important state. The Coastguard is creating awareness among the local fishing communities and as part of it rallies were organized on Monday.
The main objective of the rallies was to create awareness on coastal security and instill a sense of greater vigilance among the local fishing communities so that they become “eyes and ears” of coastguard.
Rallies were flagged off from Koteshwar, Jamnagar and Porbandar simultaneously on Monday. They were organized with the help of state police, Indian Navy, local marine oilce, department of fisheries and BSF.
