Zakariahs Mathew, a man with passion for machine innovation

He is a school dropout. He makes machine work better and to the needs of the customers.

This may sound a statement of exaggeration. But the fact that the sixth standard dropout has 27 patents to his credit and has client list which includes names like Godrej, Voltas, Siemens and L&T reflects his genius.

Despite all this much of the life of the 63 year old Zakariahs Mathew has been of a trouble shooter cum innovator who sets machines right and make them work better and more efficiently. Nothing reflects the talent of a person with 27 patents and having manufactured more than 200 machines.

He moved to Mumbai from Kerala in his youth and now set to make pan India presence showcasing his skills at his first port of call, Gujarat. He expects that Gujarat will provide him a much needed lift to come into a higher orbit where he will sell his patents and have good cliental.

Among scores of machines, he has designed and developed Rubber tapping machine for Rubber Board, Govt of India, Coconut tree climbing robot for Coconut Development Board of India.

Giving details of Rubber tapping machine he says that the machine could be used for the tapping of maximum bark of a rubber tree in a minute with high accuracy and precision. It uses a small portable machine powered by DC motor with a 12 V battery. It does not require any special skill to operate, he says.

Coconut tree climbing robot is a perfect solution to deal with the problem of shortage of coconut tree climbers. A small machine goes up the coconut tree plucks coconut and also cuts leaves.

He has no team. He works alone, he says. He has now retained people for marketing his ideas at a larger platform.

He recalls that when he had come to Mumbai, he knew Malayalam only. As he grew up, Hindi became his language of communication. He still feels shy of communicating in English.

In former President Abdul Kalam, he has his mentor and source of inspiration. He fondly remembers his interaction with Abdul Kalam.

He got his son educated in US and Zakariahs Mathew CMD of the company he has named after his son Senzo, Senzo Consultancy and Engineering Pvt Ltd. He has online presence through two websites- and
