Navajivan Trust is to release a coffee table book having 100 portraits of Mahatma Gandhi with tributes to him by 100 different persons. The portraits are by 84 year old Rajkot based artist Ramesh Thaakar while views about Gandhi are by his contemporaries in their own handwriting.
The Coffee table book will be launched at a function in Ahmedabad on Saturday evening. The book priced at Rs 4,500 will be available at a launch price of Rs 3,000 for first two days, according to Vivek Desai, Managing Trustee of the Navajivan Trust.
He said that the original sketches were printed on the recto right hand page of the book, while facing left page contains details like verbatim script of the original write up along with translation in two other languages. Since the present generation may not be aware of the person writing tribute to Gandhiji, the book has brief write up about that person also.
Leaders who have given their views including former Prime Minister Morarji Desai, kaka Kalelkar, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Atal Bihari Bajpai, Zail Singh and Shankar Dayal Sharma.
