Gujarat Assembly to get Deputy Speaker after 11 years

 Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad

Ultimately, after 11 years Gujarat Assembly is all set to have a Deputy Speaker. Today, Minister Nitin Patel suggested the name of Mangubhai Patel for the post. Formal election will be held on the last day of the Monsoon session of the Assembly October 3.

The result of the election is obvious. Ruling party candidate will be elected Speaker. However, Congress has decided to field its member Shailesh Parmar. Congress has 56 members in the House of 182. Presently, the House has 181 members.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi never filled the post which generally has a member from Opposition. This issue was raked up by Opposition Congress several times. Even last month, Leader of Opposition Shankarsinh Vaghela had demanded that the post should be filled.

Ultimately, Modi decided to fill up the post, but by his own party member.
