Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi who has launched a campaign to promote himself riding the strongman image of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel has not contributed anything to the Sardar Patel National Memorial.
Modi has launched a publicity blitz for his pet project of Statue of Unity which is basically a statue of Sardar Patel. Modi is going to perform its foundation ceremony on October 31, birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.
On the same day, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will open museum in Sardar Patel National Memorial and 3-D show, first of its kind in India. Union Minister Dinsha Patel who heads the trust which looks after the memorial said that Modi government did not give even single paise to the memorial, when a journalist asked a question.
In reply to a question about Modi’s nationwide movement to collect iron for the statue of unity, Dinsha Patel said that it’s a matter of common knowledge that statues are not made of iron. They have either copper or panch dhatu (five metals) material. He parried a question about Modi’s motive for collecting iron for the statue.
