The railways have decided to introduce new tatkal reservation charges from October 1. Under the new system the charges will be on actual distance of the journey against the present system of end to end.

In nutshell the tatkal charges will be ten percent of the basic fare for te second class and 30 per cent of the basic for the AC travel. However, this will be subject to minimum and maximum. The charges will be uniform in both peak and non peak period.

Now, the executive class of Shatabdi will also have tatkal reservation facility. Ten percent will be reserved which comes to five berths per coach.

Under the revised rates minimum tatkal charges for sitting will be Rs 10 and Maximum Rs 15. In the case of sleeper and AC chair car it will be Rs 75 (minimum) and Rs 150 (maximum).

In all other classes the minimum charge will be Rs 200 and maximum Rs 300. This includes executive class of Shatabdi.
