Gujarat gears up to face cyclone Phyan, Gunotsav cancelled

Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad Gujarat government today cancelled its three day state wide Gunotsav programme to mobilize all resources to meet the challenge of cyclone Phyan which is moving towards Gujarat coast. Chief Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the situation and took number of decisions. The effect of approaching cyclone is very visible in the entire Gujarat. Sky is overcast and many parts have received heavy rains. Almost all ports along 1600 km long coastline have danger signals varying from Number 1 to Number three. Fishermen have already been warned and advised not to venture in the sea.At the same time, massive rescue and relief measures are being taken in the coastal areas of Saurashtra. Scores of boats have drifted from Mumbai and South Gujarat region to Saurashtra North West area of Gujarat. Government machinery is also looking for number of boats which are said to be missing since morning.The three day Gunotsav was scheduled to start from November 12. In this more than 3000 class one officers including senior IAS, IPS and IFS were involved. The programme has been devised to evaluate 32,000 government primary schools in the state. These officers had to remain present in the schools and gather information for evaluation.Government had on Saturday night transferred 80 IAS officers which included many district collectors and DDOs.
