Heavy rains likely to lash Gujarat by evening

Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad The state will receive heavy to very heavy rains by evening as the cyclonic storm Phyan over the Arabian Sea is likely to intensify further. The cyclone moved in Northeast direction and lay centered in the morning at 8.30 hours.According to weather office under its influence heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and isolated extremely heavy fall were likely to begin over South Gujarat, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli by evening. Heavy rains are also expected in Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and Bhavanagar. Rains are likely in Saurasthra region by night, according to weather office. The cyclonic storm is likely to cross South Gujarat and North Maharasthra between Dahanu and Mahuva on Thursday early morning. Due to this strong winds reaching 70-80 kmph to 90 kmph would start along and off South Gujarat coast from today afternoon. The sea would be high to very high and fishermen have been asked to stay away. All the ports have been asked to display danger signals. Storm surge of 1 to 2 metres above astronomical tide is likely in Valsad district at the time of landfall, according to Met office. Extensive damage to thatched huts and uprooting of trees, bending of electric poles and snapping off communication lines is possible during the next 48 hours.
