Students death: Asaram sadhakas seek anticipatory bail

Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad Seven people of Asaram Ashram booked by CID crime in connection with death of two students have sought anticipatory bail. The seven applied for bail in sessions court on Wednesday.The CID crime has registered a case against the seven one and half years after the death of students of the ashram Dipesh and Abhishek Vaghela. The Vaghela cousins who were studying in the ashram went missing on the night of July 3, 2008. Two days later their mutilated bodies were found from the ravines of the Sabarmati River behind the ashram. Their mysterious deaths had evoked widespread protests and the government was forced to set up an inquiry commission. Parents of the two had approached the Gujarat High Court alleging that tantric rituals were being performed in the ashram and their children were killed as part of it. They had also demanded a CBI inquiry into the case. The HC issued a notice to the state government after which the CID registered case against the seven sadhaks. The seven accused include PRO of the Ashram Uday Sanghani, Pankaj Saxsena, Uogesh Bhatti, Vikas Khemka, Meenketan Katra, Kaushik Vanik, and Ajay Shah who were booked under section 304(A), 34, 114 of Indian Penal Code and section 23 of Juvenile Protection Act.
The state government has appointed Justice D K Trivedi panel to probe the mysterious deaths. A sadhak at the Ashram Ramesh Patel had submitted before the Trivedi panel of tantric rituals being performed in the ashram. For news in Hindi see our Hindi daily Chaupal Chronicle
