ONGC Hazira plant bags award for strong commitment

Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad The Hazira plant of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has received “Commendation for strong Commitment” for the year 2009. The award instituted by the CII-ITC centre for sustainability development is for the contribution of the Hazira plant towards economy, environment and social responsibility.The award was presented by Jairam Ramesh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Environment & Forest (Independent Charge) at the 4th Sustainability Summit: Asia 2009. ‘This commendation will further encourage ONGC’s commitment towards sustainable development’, R S Sharma, CMD, ONGC said. It may be noted that the Hazira Plant of ONGC is the highest gas processing plant in India. It processes about 45 Million meter cube of gas every day. The plant has got three of its projects registered with United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) under CDM projects, including its flare gas recovery unit. The Green Belt created around the plant and its social commitment towards the local community is noteworthy among its various contributions towards people, environment and risk management.
