NTPC to set up two solar power plants in Gujarat

Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad National Thermal Power Corporation is to set up two solar power plants of 50 MW each in Gujarat. These power plants will be set up in Banaskantha and Kutch. This was announced by Minister of State for Power Bharatsinh Solanki here today.Solanki said that the central government was taking number of steps to increase power generation in the country to meet the target of the GDP. Renewable energy is one of the thrust areas. He said that besides solar and wind power, schemes like CFL lamps were also very important. To promote renewable energy, the government is not only offering incentives, it has introduced Power Purchase Agreement facility for this sector. He said that one of the major hindrances in the renewable energy sector was lack of PPA facility. For the purpose, he said, government has set up a corporation which will have PPA with producers of renewable energy. Solanki clarified that the solar power projects of NTPC were different than the projects announced by Clinton foundation recently. The Foundation had announced setting up world’s biggest power project in Gujarat. Talking about ambitious Bachat Lamp Yojna, Solanki said that the scheme was developed by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) to promote energy efficienc lighting in India.
