From Monday, October 1 one would have to shell more money for getting a passport as the government has increased passport and related fees.
An official release from the Regional Passport Office here said that the fees for normal passport has been increased by Rs.500 and for tatkal the fees will be Rs.1,000 more.
Accordingly the fees for normal passport has been increased from Rs.1,000 to Rs.1,500. In case of tatkal one will have to pay Rs.3,500 instead of Rs.2,500. For Indian residents living abroad the revised fees would be USD 75.00 instead of 40.00 and Euro 60.00 in place of 48.00 for normal applications.
The statement said that hike was necessitated due to considerable increase in input costs relating to establishment, capital expenditure, procurement of equipment, reimbursement to police authorities, payment to Post and other costs.
The current fee structure came into force in 1993 when the fees was fixed at Rs.300. In 2002 it was increased to Rs.1,000. Over the last 10 years there has been increased in all the costs.
