Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad College education in Gujarat will be changed totally from this June. This follows the introduction of choice based credit system in Gujarat colleges from the next academic year starting from June. Now students will be able to opt for inter disciplinary subjects. University Grants Commission is bringing CBCS in the entire country.
In the choice based credit system, there will be two semesters every year. Each semester will have 90 working days. First semester will be from July to November and the second from December to April. Undergraduate student will have to clear eight semesters. A student will be allowed to learn at his own pace. In the slow pace a student can register for minimum 12 credits in a semester while in fast pace he can have 23 credits. Degree has been categorized in three levels- General, honours and special BA programme. For general degree qualifying credits is 120, for honours 144 and for special it is 190 credits. Students getting more than 60 percent marks will be divided in four categories. Students getting marks between 60 percent and 69 percent will get C grade, students between 70 and 79 percent B grade, students between 80 and 89 percent A grade and students getting above 90 percent O grade.
