A woman from Gujarat killed in Haridwar stampede

Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad A woman from Gujarat is among 16 persons who have been killed in stampede in Gayatri Pariwar function in Haridwar. 15 Gujaratis are among injured. Over 45,000 had gone to Haridwar to attend function to mark birth centenary of the founder of Gayatri Pariwar movement. The stampede broke out when a large number of followers tried to enter the gate of the Shaktikunj Ashram to take part in a yagna. Taking moral responsibility of the tragedy, organizers have announced compernsation of Rs two lakh to the family of each of the victim. Talking about the incident, SDM Harbir Singh said that prima facie suffocation in the are due to smoke from the yagna fireplaces led to the stampede, but the exact cause would be known only after inquiry. Gujarat victim is from Patdi village of Surendranagar district. |
