9 (I) Recce & Observation Flight located at Udhampur has been awarded the coveted Chief of Army Staff Flight Safety Trophy for the year 2014-2015. It has won it fourth time.
The trophy is awarded to the flight exhibiting the best overall performance in execution of flying operations among the 56 flights of Army Aviation. The selection process for the award includes assessment by formation commanders, accident/incident record of the flight, maintenance practices assessed by an independent team from Integrated HQ of MoD (Army) and other actions which directly promote flight safety and enhance flight safety awareness.
Since the trophy was instituted in 2000-2001, 9 (I) Recce & Observation Flight holds the unique distinction of winning it a record four times.
Lt Col Amit Kumar, Flight Commander, Maj Divya Kumar, Senior Technical Officer and Sub Maj VK Deshmukh received the trophy from the Chief of Army Staff on behalf of 9 (I) Recce & Observation Flight at a function held at New Delhi.
Incidentally, the flight was raised on 23 December 1965 and is celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year.
