The deadline for digitalization of TV signals in Gujarat has been extended to April 8, thanks to the Gujarat High Court.
The Gujarat HC stayed the central government’s notification following a petition by the cable operators in the state. Justice R H Shukla stayed the mandatory digitization process for 10 days as the central government failed to come up with an explanation on why the cable operators should not be permitted extension in deadline. Cable Operators’ Association of Gujarat wanted the deadline to be extended for six months on the ground that instruments are not available in markets.

The association contended that only 50% work of installing the set-top box — Digital Addressable System (DAS) — in the four cities of the state has been completed due to shortage of set-top boxes in the market.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled on April 8.
